We are not commercial breeders, only having an occasional litter. Our aim is bred the kind of puppies that we would want to own, as litters will generally be bred to keep with the intention of keeping a puppy for ourselves.
We are striving to produce puppies that will make driven working dogs, capable of field trialling as well as reliable shooting dogs. Equally important, we make sure that we only breed from parents with excellent temperaments as all our working dogs double up as our family pets.
Bitches used for breeding will be health tested under the BVA schemes as well as DNA tested to minimise the risk of hereditary health conditions.
Stud dogs are selected for a combination of field trial & working performance along with temperament and health testing.
Puppies will be Kennel Club registered under either the Spinnakeu or the Harrachtain affix (depending on whether the bitch is in Matt’s or Rachel’s name). In either case the puppies will receive the same level of care and attention. They will be used to the comings and goings of a busy household. They will also have met young children and our other dogs.
Please note that while working type gundogs can make fantastic pets, they are not suitable for everyone. The labradors will greatly benefit from plenty of training. Working type spaniels are a very high, drive hunting dogs. While they make great pets in the house, and they can be very challenging to just take on a nice country walk due to these drives. Spaniel puppies will only be sold to working homes, or those with a good understanding of working type spaniels.

Update June 2024 - Labrador Litter!
We have mated Piper (Vilendal Cumberland Apple of Harrachtain) to FTCh Etomanni Comanche. We hope an all black litter will be born approximately 9 August.
Both parents have excellent health tests.
We are really excited by this litter. Piper is a lovely dog to live with, train and work. Rachel loves training her and she has developed into an excellent gundog. We feel that this litter should excel in gundog work, working tests and field trials. They should also make fantastic pets.

Wren (FTAW Hawksgarth Black Pearl of Spinnakeu) had a litter of five puppies born on 31 March. Wren had three dog puppies and two bitches. All puppies were reserved before they were born.
The sire of the puppies is FTCh Birdsgreen Cleudo of Wedgnock.

We have a litter of Labrador puppies born 4th May!
This is the first litter registered under Rachel’s ‘Harrachtain’ affix.
Brooke (Harpersbrook Sunflower of Harrachtain) has been mated to Acer (Highroost Acer of Vilendal)
We have 4 yellow dogs, 1 black dog, 2 yellow bitches and 1 black bitch.
All puppies have been sold, however we do know of some well bred, tested Labrador puppies available locally.
Both parents are fully health tested. They combine some of the very best UK and Irish field trial lines.

Brooke has a lovely kind temperament with adults, children and other dogs. She is a lovely, uncomplicated bitch that is a pleasure to own. As a working dog and in training she has a high drive, with plenty of natural instinct and trainability. She is good in cover and water - just as keen on dummies as game.
Acer was carefully chosen as a sire for this litter. We have known Acer since he was a very young dog. We have always been impressed by his fantastic, level-headed temperament and for his ease of training. He will be seriously competing in field trials this coming season.
This breeding combination brings together dogs that we have really enjoyed working with that we have known personally. In addition, Acer’s pedigree includes some of our favourite field trial dogs that we have seen competing. We’re really excited about this first instalment of Rachel’s Harrachtain breeding line!

We have a beautiful litter of black working cocker spaniel pups!
Sire : FTCh Tiptopjack Ajay
Dam : FTAW Cuckoopen Fire Fly of Spinnakeu
Both parents are tested clear for PRA, FN and AMS and have clear eye certificates.
Fly gave birth to 6 black pups on 15 May (her third birthday!). She had 2 dogs and 4 bitches. Fly has proven to be the most incredible mum - we have been so proud of her!
These pups will be suitable for trialling / working homes or pet owners who fully understand the requirements of working type spaniels. They are pictured below at 5 weeks old.
